rbnIfHCInIPv6MulticastPkts

Module: RBN-IF-MIB

OID (symbolic): RBN-IF-MIB::rbnIfHCInIPv6MulticastPkts

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2352.2.57.0.1.1.7

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter64

Access: read-only

Description: The number of IPv6 packets, delivered by this sub-layer to a higher (sub-)layer, which were addressed to a multicast address at this sub-layer. For a MAC layer protocol, this includes both Group and Functional addresses.

Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of ifCounterDiscontinuityTime in ifXTable in IF-MIB.

What is rbnIfHCInIPv6MulticastPkts?

This counts the IPv6 packets that this sub-layer delivered upward to a higher layer and that were addressed to a multicast address, the IPv6 analog of rbnIfHCInIPv4MulticastPkts. It helps an admin monitor inbound IPv6 multicast traffic on an interface, such as traffic from IPv6 neighbor discovery or multicast applications running over IPv6. A spike in this counter on a normally quiet link could indicate a new multicast application or an IPv6 multicast storm worth investigating.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.2352.2.57.0.1.1.7
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> RBN-IF-MIB::rbnIfHCInIPv6MulticastPkts

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.2352.2.57.0.1.1.7.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> RBN-IF-MIB::rbnIfHCInIPv6MulticastPkts.1
