rbnIfHCInIPv4MulticastPkts

Module: RBN-IF-MIB

OID (symbolic): RBN-IF-MIB::rbnIfHCInIPv4MulticastPkts

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2352.2.57.0.1.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter64

Access: read-only

Description: The number of IPv4 packets, delivered by this sub-layer to a higher (sub-)layer, which were addressed to a multicast address at this sub-layer. For a MAC layer protocol, this includes both Group and Functional addresses.

Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of ifCounterDiscontinuityTime in ifXTable in IF-MIB.

What is rbnIfHCInIPv4MulticastPkts?

This counts the IPv4 packets that this sub-layer delivered upward to a higher layer and that were addressed to a multicast address, as a 64-bit extension counter on the interface row. It lets an admin isolate multicast receive load on an interface separately from unicast traffic, which matters for troubleshooting multicast routing or IPTV-style distribution. A steadily rising value on an access port that should only see unicast client traffic would flag unexpected multicast group membership or a misconfigured multicast source.
