stm1CardAlarmStatus

Module: PEGASUS-SDH-MIB

OID (symbolic): PEGASUS-SDH-MIB::stm1CardAlarmStatus

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.6368.2.8.1.1.23

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Integer32

Access: read-only

Description: This variable indicates the status of STM-1 card, regenerator section and multiplex section. It's a bitmap represented as a sum. Therefore multiple alarms can be displayed simultaneously. The value noAlarm is only set if there isn't any alarm active. The various bit positions are: 1 No alarm present -- STM-1 card -- 2 Initialization failure 4 Firmware Version Mismatch 8 Maintenance -- regenerator section RS -- 16 Loss of Signal (LOS) 32 Loss of Frame (LOF) 64 Trace ID Mismatch (RS-TIM) -- multiplex section MS -- 128 Alarm Indication Signal (MS-AIS) 256 Remote Defect Indication (MS-RDI, former FERF)

What is stm1CardAlarmStatus?

This is a bitmap (summed as an integer 1-511) covering STM-1 card, regenerator-section, and multiplex-section alarms simultaneously, e.g. bit 2 for initialization failure, bit 16 for Loss of Signal, bit 64 for RS Trace ID Mismatch, and bit 256 for MS Remote Defect Indication; a value of 1 (noAlarm) means nothing is active. Admins decode this bitmap to see every concurrent fault on the card at once instead of polling separate alarm objects.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.6368.2.8.1.1.23
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> PEGASUS-SDH-MIB::stm1CardAlarmStatus

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.6368.2.8.1.1.23.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> PEGASUS-SDH-MIB::stm1CardAlarmStatus.1

Start monitoring Schmid Telecom Pegasus STM-1 microwave/SDSL transport cards (SDH/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the PEGASUS-SDH-MIB::stm1CardAlarmStatus OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Schmid Telecom Pegasus STM-1 microwave/SDSL transport cards (SDH/clock status) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Schmid Telecom Pegasus STM-1 microwave/SDSL transport card (SDH/clock status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type stm1CardAlarmStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This variable indicates the status of STM-1 card, regenerator section and multiplex section. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
