l2cpPortStatus

Module: PEA-L2CP-IPDSLAM

OID (symbolic): PEA-L2CP-IPDSLAM::l2cpPortStatus

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.193.72.300.35.5.10.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: Show the current status of a DSL line as seen from L2CP. showTime = DSL line is active. idle = DSL line is not active. (De-activated on purpose) silent = DSL line is not active. (eg. CPE turned off)

What is l2cpPortStatus?

This object reports the current L2CP-observed status of a DSL line as showTime(1) meaning the line is active, idle(2) meaning it was deliberately deactivated, or silent(3) meaning it's inactive because the CPE is off or unreachable. Admins check it to distinguish a deliberately disabled line from one where the customer's equipment has simply gone dark. For example, a port showing silent(3) suggests the subscriber's modem is powered off or disconnected, rather than the line being administratively idled.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.193.72.300.35.5.10.1.4
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> PEA-L2CP-IPDSLAM::l2cpPortStatus

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.193.72.300.35.5.10.1.4.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> PEA-L2CP-IPDSLAM::l2cpPortStatus.1

SNMPv3 example:

snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> l2cpPortStatus.1

Start monitoring Ericsson Diax A/S IP DSLAM platforms (BRAS-DSLAM L2CP line signaling) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the PEA-L2CP-IPDSLAM::l2cpPortStatus OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Ericsson Diax A/S IP DSLAM platforms (BRAS-DSLAM L2CP line signaling) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select an Ericsson Diax A/S IP DSLAM platform (BRAS-DSLAM L2CP line signaling) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type l2cpPortStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The current status of a DSL line as seen from L2CP — showTime (active), idle (deactivated on purpose), or silent (CPE turned off). On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'showTime', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
