controlAutoRestart

Module: Olicom-MIB

OID (symbolic): Olicom-MIB::controlAutoRestart

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.285.5.12

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This object specifies whether changes to certain fundamental configuration parameters (as specified for the corresponding MIB variables) shall cause the device to restart automatically. The auto restart functionality is always enabled after restarting the bridge.

NOTICE: In general, disabling this functionality is not recommended, since some changes may cause the device to behave erratically (which may be the reason why the device has to restart). However, for the initial configuration of the device (i.e. before it is operational, it is usually safe to postpone restarting the device until all configuration changes have been made.

What is controlAutoRestart?

This controls whether changes to certain fundamental configuration parameters automatically trigger a device restart, and it's always re-enabled after any restart regardless of its prior setting. Disabling it is generally discouraged since some configuration changes can leave the device behaving erratically without a restart, though it's sometimes convenient to disable it temporarily during initial bulk configuration before bringing the device fully online.
