pfLimitStates

Module: OPENBSD-PF-MIB

OID (symbolic): OPENBSD-PF-MIB::pfLimitStates

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.30155.1.6.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Unsigned32

Access: read-only

Description: The maximum number of entries in the memory pool used by state table entries (filter rules that specify 'keep state').

What is pfLimitStates?

The configured maximum number of entries pf's memory pool will allow in the state table, applying to rules using 'keep state'. If pfStateCount approaches this limit, new connections start getting dropped (reflected in pfCntStateInsert), so admins raise this value on busy firewalls.
