Category: Legacy Cisco IOS
Description: Provides legacy Cisco IOS XNS (Xerox Network Systems) routing objects from early Cisco IOS versions.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is OLD-CISCO-XNS-MIB?
OLD-CISCO-XNS-MIB is a legacy Cisco Systems proprietary MIB (its own name signaling it predates later Cisco XNS modules) reporting Xerox Network Systems (XNS) protocol traffic statistics. Its objects cover total input packets, locally-destined and broadcast-input/output counts, forwarded packet count, and error counters (general errors, checksum errors, format errors). As a performance/protocol-status MIB it lets an administrator watch XNS traffic volume and error rates in the rare legacy networks still running this 1980s-era Xerox protocol. It is deployed on legacy Cisco routers carrying XNS traffic. Engineers can download the OLD-CISCO-XNS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OLD-CISCO-XNS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Legacy Cisco routers (Xerox Network Systems protocol)
Monitoring Examples
An administrator checks xnsChksum and xnsFormerr for a router carrying legacy XNS traffic to spot a rising rate of malformed packets pointing to a misbehaving XNS end-station.
What Can Be Monitored
- XNS packet counts and error rates (checksum/format errors)
OIDs
