What is mtaReceivedMessages?

This counter tracks the total number of messages the mail transfer agent has received since it was last initialized. An admin watches this value to gauge inbound mail load and to spot sudden traffic spikes that could indicate a spam surge or misconfigured relay. If the counter jumps from 10,000 to 50,000 within an hour, that signals an abnormal influx worth investigating.
