Category: Firewall

Description: Defines service and service-group objects by protocol and port range used in NetScreen security policies.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NETSCREEN-SERVICE-MIB?

NETSCREEN-SERVICE-MIB is a NetScreen (later Juniper Networks) proprietary MIB reporting service-object (Layer 4 port/protocol definition) configuration used by firewall policies. Its service table records name, category, transport protocol, source/destination port ranges, flags, and virtual system, while a service-group table records name, members, comment, and virtual system, with a companion group-member table. As a configuration MIB it lets an administrator confirm a named service object's port range before troubleshooting a firewall policy that isn't matching expected traffic. It is deployed on NetScreen (Juniper) security appliances. Engineers can download the NETSCREEN-SERVICE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETSCREEN-SERVICE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NetScreen (Juniper Networks) security appliances

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks nsServiceDstPortLow and DstPortHigh for a custom service object to confirm its port range matches the application before troubleshooting a firewall policy match failure.

What Can Be Monitored

  • service object port/protocol definitions
