Description: Denotes the Merge Capability of this Entity. This is the EXACT value for the ATM Session Parameter, field M (for ATM Merge Capabilities). The ATM Session Parameter is an optional parameter in the Initialization Message.

'M, ATM Merge Capabilities Specifies the merge capabilities of an ATM switch. The following values are supported in this version of the specification:

If the merge capabilities of the LSRs differ, then: - Non-merge and VC-merge LSRs may freely interoperate.
- The interoperability of VP-merge-capable switches with non-VP-merge-capable switches is a subject for future study. When the LSRs differ on the use of VP-merge, the session is established, but VP merge is not used.'

What is mplsLdpEntityAtmMergeCap?
This object reports the ATM merge capability this LDP entity advertises in the optional ATM Session Parameter of the LDP Initialization Message, as one of notSupported(0), vpMerge(1), vcMerge(2), or vpAndVcMerge(3). An admin cares about this because merge capability affects how multiple upstream label-switched paths can converge onto shared VPI/VCI labels at this switch, and mismatched merge capabilities between LDP peers determine whether VP merge gets used on a session. For instance, seeing vcMerge(2) tells the admin this ATM-LSR can combine multiple incoming VCs onto one outgoing VC, while notSupported(0) means each LSP must keep its own dedicated VPI/VCI all the way through.
