fethPortTotalErrors
Module: MODULES-MIB
OID (symbolic): MODULES-MIB::fethPortTotalErrors
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.81.12.6.1.1.1.9
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: Counter
Access: read-only
Description: The total number of errors which have occurred on this port. This counter is the summation of the values of other error counters (for the same port), namely: fethPortFCSErrors, fethPortAlignmentErrors, fethPortFrameTooLongs, fethPortShortEvents, fethPortLateEvents, fethPortVeryLongEvents, fethPortDataRateMismatches,
For LFE-100 only : fethPortAlignmentErrors, fethPortRxErrors.
This counter is redundant in the sense that it is the summation of information already available through other objects. However, it is included specifically because the regular retrieval of this object as a means of tracking the health of a port provides a considerable optimization of network management traffic over the otherwise necessary retrieval of the summed counters. REFERENCE Reference IETF 100Base-T Repeater MIB, rptr100MonitorPortTotalErrors.
What is fethPortTotalErrors?
Aggregates this fast-Ethernet port's FCS errors, alignment errors, oversized frames, short events, late events, very-long events, and data-rate mismatches (or, on LFE-100 hardware, alignment and RxErrors instead) into a single combined error count; it exists so an admin can monitor one counter per port for overall health instead of polling every individual error type, trading a small amount of SNMP traffic for fewer round trips.
