Category: MIME / Messaging

Description: Defines MIME message handling system objects for mail gateway management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MIME-MHS?

MIME-MHS is not a device-monitoring SNMP MIB but an ASN.1 registration module (in the style of RFC 1494) that defines OBJECT IDENTIFIER arcs used to tag MIME body-part content types when converting messages between Internet mail (RFC 822/MIME) and X.400 Message Handling System format in mail gateways. It belongs to the messaging/email-standards area rather than any vendor's hardware, and its objects (mime-mhs-headings, mime-mhs-bodies, id-hex-partial-message, id-hex-multipart-message) are pure naming identifiers, not pollable tables or counters. Because it has no MODULE-IDENTITY runtime data objects, it contributes nothing to monitoring uptime, temperature, CPU/memory load, power/fan health, disk status, or software version of any device. It is referenced by mail-gateway software implementing X.400/MIME interoperability (per RFC 1494) rather than deployed as an SNMP agent MIB. It would appear only in the source tree of a mail-gateway product's ASN.1 modules, not in an NMS's list of pollable device MIBs. Engineers can download the MIME-MHS file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MIME-MHS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based OID registration module, not tied to any specific device — used by X.400/MIME mail gateway software

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only OBJECT IDENTIFIER assignments such as id-hex-partial-message and id-hex-multipart-message under the mime-mhs-bodies/mime-mhs-headings arcs, with no scalar or tabular objects; it is an identifier-registration module for MIME-to-X.400 gateway content typing, not a monitoring MIB, so no polling scenario applies.
