mServServiceStatus

Module: MDS-SERVICES-MIB

OID (symbolic): MDS-SERVICES-MIB::mServServiceStatus

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.4130.10.3.1.1.2.1.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: Service status.

What is mServServiceStatus?

This read-only value reports the current status of the service identified by the paired mServServiceName entry, using one of four values: running, disabled, error, or notRunning. An administrator monitors this to catch a critical service that has stopped unexpectedly (notRunning) or entered a fault state (error), distinct from one that's simply been intentionally turned off (disabled). For example, a service showing a status of error rather than the expected running would prompt the administrator to investigate that specific service's logs for the cause of the fault.

Start monitoring GE MDS industrial wireless radio/gateway (software service status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the MDS-SERVICES-MIB::mServServiceStatus OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any GE MDS industrial wireless radio/gateway (software service status) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a GE MDS industrial wireless radio/gateway (software service status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type mServServiceStatus into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the service status. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'running', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
