mGpsStatusFixMode

Module: MDS-SERVICE-GPS-MIB

OID (symbolic): MDS-SERVICE-GPS-MIB::mGpsStatusFixMode

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.4130.10.3.12.1.2.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: Fix mode

What is mGpsStatusFixMode?

This read-only value reports the GPS receiver's current fix mode: nofix(0) means no position lock, a2dfix(1) means a 2D fix using latitude and longitude only, and a3dfix(2) means a full 3D fix that also includes altitude. Admins check it to know whether the device's GPS-derived location data, such as latitude, longitude, and altitude, can actually be trusted at the moment. For example, seeing nofix(0) explains why the other status objects like mGpsStatusLatitude are returning stale or empty values, likely due to poor satellite visibility.

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> MDS-SERVICE-GPS-MIB::mGpsStatusFixMode.1

SNMPv3 example:

snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> mGpsStatusFixMode.1

Start monitoring GE MDS ORBIT radio platform (GPS receiver status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the MDS-SERVICE-GPS-MIB::mGpsStatusFixMode OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any GE MDS ORBIT radio platform (GPS receiver status) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a GE MDS ORBIT radio platform (GPS receiver status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type mGpsStatusFixMode into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the fix mode. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is 'nofix', since that means the GPS receiver has lost its position fix. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
