Description: The initial Maximum Transmit Unit (MTU) that the PPPoE major interface entity will advertise to the remote entity.

If the value of this variable is 1 then the local PPPoE entity will use an MTU value determined by its underlying media interface.

If the value of this variable is 2 then the local PPPoE entity will use a value determined by the PPPoE Max-Mtu-Tag transmitted from the client in the PADR packet. If no Max-Mtu-Tag is received, the value defaults to a maximum of 1494.

The operational MTU is limited by the MTU of the underlying media interface minus the PPPoE frame overhead.

What is juniPppoeProfileMtu?

This value sets the initial MTU the PPPoE interface advertises to remote clients, defaulting to 1494; a value of 1 uses the underlying media interface's MTU, and a value of 2 uses the client's PADR Max-Mtu-Tag (or 1494 if none is received), with the operational MTU always bounded by the underlying media MTU minus PPPoE framing overhead. An admin adjusts this when the standard 1492/1494-byte PPPoE MTU doesn't match the actual path, for example on a jumbo-frame-capable access network. Setting juniPppoeProfileMtu to 2 lets each client's own requested Max-Mtu-Tag value drive the negotiated MTU instead of a fixed profile setting.
