Description:
The total number of octets received in IP multicast
datagrams. Octets from datagrams counted in ipIfStatsInMcastPkts MUST be counted here.
Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of ipIfStatsDiscontinuityTime.
What is ipIfStatsInMcastOctets?
This counter tracks the total number of bytes received in IP multicast datagrams on a particular interface. Multicast allows a single sender to transmit data to multiple recipients simultaneously, and this metric helps operators monitor the volume of multicast traffic flowing through the interface. You would check this to understand multicast data consumption patterns or diagnose issues with group-based video, audio, or other streaming services.
