ipIfStatsHCInReceives

Module: IP-MIB

OID (symbolic): IP-MIB::ipIfStatsHCInReceives

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.31.3.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter64

Access: read-only

Description:

The total number of input IP datagrams received, including those received in error. This object counts the same datagrams as ipIfStatsInReceives, but allows for larger values.

Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re-initialization of the management system, and at other times as indicated by the value of ipIfStatsDiscontinuityTime.

What is ipIfStatsHCInReceives?

This 64-bit counter records the total number of IP datagrams received on a specific interface, including those with errors, and is functionally equivalent to ipIfStatsInReceives but supports much larger values to prevent counter overflow on high-speed links. Counter discontinuities may occur at management system resets or other significant events as marked by ipIfStatsDiscontinuityTime. Network operations teams monitor this to measure actual throughput and detect sustained traffic anomalies.
