What is hwIPLinkStatus?

This value, also delivered as part of an SNMP trap, carries the current status of the IP-link identified by the accompanying hwIPLinkID varbind, reporting whether that monitored connection is considered up or down. An administrator uses this to be alerted in near-real-time when a monitored IP-link's reachability changes, which is often tied to triggering failover behavior on devices that use IP-link status as a health check for redundancy. For example, an IP-link monitoring the path to a VPN peer transitioning to down would trigger this trap, prompting the administrator to check the VPN tunnel or the path to that peer.
