Admins use it alongside hwOpenflowConnectionDownReason to get a finer-grained diagnostic code when the coarse reason (like a TCP failure or heartbeat timeout) isn't specific enough to pinpoint the root cause. For example, a nonzero sub-reason code paired with a heartbeatTimeout main reason might indicate the specific internal condition, such as a CPU overload, that caused the heartbeat to be missed.
