What is hpnicfTerminalSource?

This accessible-for-notify DisplayString identifies the login mode used for a session, such as Console, AUX, TTY, or VTY, and is only populated as a varbind riding along with the hpnicfLogIn, hpnicfLogOut, and hpnicfLogInAuthenFailure traps. An admin uses this alongside hpnicfTerminalUserName to know not just who logged in but through which access path, which matters for distinguishing a local console session from a remote VTY (Telnet/SSH) session. For example, an hpnicfLogIn trap showing 'VTY' as the terminal source tells the admin the login came in over a remote virtual terminal rather than the physical console port.
