What is hpnicfIpBdstForwardBroadcast?

This setting controls whether the HPN-ICF device forwards IP directed broadcast datagrams, packets addressed to a remote subnet's broadcast address, a behavior governed by RFC2644 and historically restricted for security reasons since directed broadcasts have been exploited in smurf-style amplification attacks. An administrator typically sets this to notForwarding on internet-facing interfaces to eliminate that attack vector, reserving forwarding only for internal networks with legacy applications that genuinely depend on it. For example, with this set to notForwarding(2) on a WAN-facing interface, the router silently drops any inbound packet destined for a remote subnet's broadcast address.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.15.2.33.1.1
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> HPN-ICF-IP-BROADCAST-MIB::hpnicfIpBdstForwardBroadcast

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.15.2.33.1.1.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> HPN-ICF-IP-BROADCAST-MIB::hpnicfIpBdstForwardBroadcast.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.15.2.33.1.1.1 i <value>

SNMPv3 example:

snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> hpnicfIpBdstForwardBroadcast.1
