hpnicfVPMState

Module: HPN-ICF-DSP-MIB

OID (symbolic): HPN-ICF-DSP-MIB::hpnicfVPMState

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.15.2.89.1.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The object indicates the current state of VPM card being monitored. normal(1) - VPM card in normal condition. warning(2) - VPM card has some problem and need attention. fatal(3) - VPM card is not functional. offLine(4) - VPM card is in off-line maintenance state.

What is hpnicfVPMState?

This read-only object reports the operational health of the VPM card: normal, warning, meaning it has a problem needing attention, fatal, meaning it is not functional, or offLine, meaning it is in off-line maintenance. Admins watch it to catch a degrading VPM card before it fails outright, since a warning state gives advance notice that something needs investigation. A hpnicfVPMState reporting fatal(3) tells the admin that VPM card has stopped functioning and its DSP resources are unavailable for voice processing.

Start monitoring HP/H3C Comware voice gateway router/IAD (DSP/VPM voice-processing hardware) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the HPN-ICF-DSP-MIB::hpnicfVPMState OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any HP/H3C Comware voice gateway router/IAD (DSP/VPM voice-processing hardware) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select an HP/H3C Comware voice gateway router/IAD (DSP/VPM voice-processing hardware) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hpnicfVPMState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The object indicates the current state of VPM card being monitored. normal(1) - VPM card in normal condition. warning(2) - VPM card has some problem and need attention. fatal(3) - VPM card is not functional. offLine(4) - VPM card is in off-line. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'normal', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
