hpicfRAGuardPortLog

Module: HP-ICF-IPV6-RA-GUARD-MIB

OID (symbolic): HP-ICF-IPV6-RA-GUARD-MIB::hpicfRAGuardPortLog

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.14.11.5.1.87.1.1.1.1.4

Description: Whether to log RAs and Redirects for the port. The log option is to enable debug logging for troubleshooting. It uses a lot of CPU and should be used only for short periods of time.

What is hpicfRAGuardPortLog?

This setting turns on detailed logging of blocked Router Advertisement and Redirect messages for this port, intended specifically as a troubleshooting aid rather than something left continuously enabled, since the MIB explicitly warns it consumes significant CPU. Administrators would temporarily enable this while actively diagnosing which device is triggering RA Guard blocks, then disable it again once done to avoid unnecessary CPU load. For example, an admin investigating repeated RA Guard blocks on a port would briefly turn this logging on to capture details about the offending device, then turn it back off once they've gathered enough information.
