Description: If configured to lldpOnly(1), only received LLDP messages will be used to populate the LLDP-MIB's remTable. If configured to macOnly(2), a learned mac addresses out of the switch's forwarding database (FDB) will be used to populate the LLDP-MIB's remTable. A learned mac address will only be used when exactly one mac address entry is present in the FDB for the interface. If configured to both(3), both received LLDP messages and a learned mac addresses out of the switch's FDB will be used to populate the LLDP-MIB's remTable. If configured to autoDetect(4) and LLDP messages are received on this port, this mode will behave like lldpOnly(1), otherwise it will behave like macOnly(2).
What is hm2LLDPIfFDBMode?
This setting controls how the device populates its LLDP remote-neighbor table for a port -- from received LLDP messages, from a single learned MAC address in the switch's forwarding database, from both sources, or by automatically choosing based on whether LLDP frames are actually seen. An admin uses autoDetect on most ports so the switch gracefully falls back to MAC-address-based neighbor identification for non-LLDP-speaking devices, while forcing lldpOnly on ports where only standards-compliant LLDP neighbors should ever be recognized. Setting this to macOnly(2) on a port would make the switch identify its neighbor there purely from a single learned MAC address in its forwarding database, ignoring any LLDP frames received.
