Description: This object indicates whether a device forwards direct broadcast datagrams or not. More details of this object, please refers to RFC2644.
What is hh3cIpBdstForwardBroadcast?
This setting controls whether the device forwards IP directed broadcast datagrams, i.e., packets addressed to the broadcast address of a remote subnet rather than the local one, a behavior governed by RFC2644 largely for security reasons since directed broadcasts have historically been abused in smurf-style denial-of-service amplification attacks. An administrator typically leaves this set to notForwarding on internet-facing or untrusted interfaces to close off that amplification vector, while some internal networks might still rely on directed broadcast forwarding for legacy applications. For example, a router with this set to notForwarding(2) on its WAN interface will silently drop, rather than forward, any inbound packet addressed to a remote subnet's broadcast address.
Examples
Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.25506.2.33.1.1 snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> HH3C-IP-BROADCAST-MIB::hh3cIpBdstForwardBroadcast
Get a specific instance (index 1):
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.25506.2.33.1.1.1 snmpget -v2c -c public <target> HH3C-IP-BROADCAST-MIB::hh3cIpBdstForwardBroadcast.1
Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):
snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.25506.2.33.1.1.1 i <value>
SNMPv3 example:
snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> hh3cIpBdstForwardBroadcast.1
