Category: Network Interfaces, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: H3C MIB for RS-485 serial interface management enabling console or sensor connectivity over RS-485 bus.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-RS485-MIB?

H3C-RS485-MIB is an H3C (Hewlett-Packard/New H3C Group) proprietary MIB that manages RS-485 serial bus interfaces on H3C networking devices, commonly used to connect console terminals, environmental sensors, or other serial peripherals. It exposes per-port serial-line configuration (baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits, flow control) alongside live traffic and error counters, and models raw serial sessions opened over the bus. Its monitoring value lies in verifying both the configuration correctness of a serial link and its operational health via error counters (h3cRS485TXErrCharacters, h3cRS485RXErrCharacters), which can reveal a failing cable, mismatched baud rate, or a malfunctioning attached peripheral. It has no strong dependency on other standard MIBs beyond the device's own entity/physical-index model used to key each RS-485 port. It is deployed on H3C routers/switches that provide an RS-485 console or auxiliary port for connecting terminal or sensor equipment in a wiring closet or data center. Engineers can download the H3C-RS485-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-RS485-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C router/switch with RS-485 serial interface

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll h3cRS485BaudRate, h3cRS485DataBits, h3cRS485Parity, and h3cRS485StopBits in h3cRS485PropertiesTable to confirm the serial line is configured to match the attached device's settings. Rising counts in h3cRS485RXErrCharacters or h3cRS485TXErrCharacters relative to h3cRS485RXCharacters/h3cRS485TXCharacters would indicate a noisy or miswired RS-485 bus causing frame corruption. h3cRS485RawSessionSummary and the raw-session table would be checked to see how many active raw serial sessions are currently open on the bus.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RS-485 line configuration (baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits)
  • flow control setting
  • transmitted/received character counts
  • transmit/receive error character counts
  • active raw serial session count
