Module: GIGAswitchEthernet-MIB

OID (symbolic): GIGAswitchEthernet-MIB::gsESwitchPortKnownMode

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.36.2.18.39.5.2.1.1.7

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Enabling known mode for this switch port causes the port to safely discard frames flooded because they are unknown unicast frames. This mode greatly enhances the efficiency of the port's output buffer since space is not wasted for frames not meant for this port.

Enabling this feature disables learning for this port. Addresses associated for this port should be entered statically. The default is disable.

What is gsESwitchPortKnownMode?

Enables an efficiency mode where the port safely discards frames flooded to it because they're unknown-unicast, rather than wasting output buffer space on frames it doesn't need. Enabling it also disables normal learning on the port, so any addresses that should reach it must be entered as static entries; the default is disable.
