This read-write setting picks the bit-error-rate threshold (10E-3, 10E-4, 10E-5, or 10E-6) that triggers a Major or Minor BER alarm for units using the '2B1Q style' alarm scheme. An admin would tighten this to thres10E06(4) on a circuit where even a very low error rate needs to raise an alarm promptly.
