agentResCtlRequestRetransmits

Module: FASTPATH-DNS-RESOLVER-CONTROL-MIB

OID (symbolic): FASTPATH-DNS-RESOLVER-CONTROL-MIB::agentResCtlRequestRetransmits

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10895.5000.2.6132.1.1.37.1.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: The number of times the request is retransmitted. The request is retransmitted provided the maximum timeout value allows this many number of retransmits.

What is agentResCtlRequestRetransmits?

This read-write value sets the number of times a DNS request is retransmitted, bounded by the overall timeout budget, defaulting to 2. An admin increases this to make DNS resolution more resilient on an unreliable network, at the cost of longer worst-case resolution time when the primary server doesn't respond promptly. For example, on a flaky network path an admin might raise agentResCtlRequestRetransmits from the default of 2 to 5 to reduce failed lookups caused by dropped query packets.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10895.5000.2.6132.1.1.37.1.1.5
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> FASTPATH-DNS-RESOLVER-CONTROL-MIB::agentResCtlRequestRetransmits

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10895.5000.2.6132.1.1.37.1.1.5.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> FASTPATH-DNS-RESOLVER-CONTROL-MIB::agentResCtlRequestRetransmits.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.674.10895.5000.2.6132.1.1.37.1.1.5.1 i <value>
