extremeRtStatsUtilization

Module: EXTREME-RTSTATS-MIB

OID (symbolic): EXTREME-RTSTATS-MIB::extremeRtStatsUtilization

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1916.1.11.1.1.10

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The best estimate of the mean physical layer network utilization on this interface during this sampling interval, in hundredths of a percent.

What is extremeRtStatsUtilization?

Estimates the mean physical-layer network utilization of this interface during the sampling interval, expressed in hundredths of a percent, so 10000 equals 100 percent. Admins use this to spot links approaching saturation, which helps decide when a segment needs upgrading or traffic needs rebalancing. A reading of extremeRtStatsUtilization at 9500 (95.00 percent) tells an admin that segment is nearly saturated and likely to start dropping traffic or introducing latency.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.1916.1.11.1.1.10
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> EXTREME-RTSTATS-MIB::extremeRtStatsUtilization

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.1916.1.11.1.1.10.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> EXTREME-RTSTATS-MIB::extremeRtStatsUtilization.1

Start monitoring Extreme Networks switching equipment (real-time interface error/utilization stats) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the EXTREME-RTSTATS-MIB::extremeRtStatsUtilization OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Extreme Networks switching equipment (real-time interface error/utilization stats) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select an Extreme Networks switch or wireless controller as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type extremeRtStatsUtilization into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the best estimate of mean physical-layer network utilization on this interface during the sampling interval, in hundredths of a percent. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if utilization exceeds 80%, since sustained high link utilization often precedes latency and packet loss. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
