nnenvTempSensorValue

Module: ENVIRONMENT-MIB

OID (symbolic): ENVIRONMENT-MIB::nnenvTempSensorValue

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.562.73.1.1.1.3.1.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Gauge32

Access: read-only

Description: The Average value of the temperature sensors.

What is nnenvTempSensorValue?

This read-only Gauge32 reports the average reading across the device's temperature sensors, expressed in degrees Celsius per the object's (commented-out) UNITS clause. Admins poll it to catch thermal problems before they cause a shutdown, since it reflects the chassis's overall thermal state rather than any single sensor. A reading climbing from 35 to 60 over a polling interval would signal a cooling problem worth investigating before nnenvTempSensorState flips to a fail condition.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

Start monitoring Nortel/Bay Networks-derived networking chassis (environmental sensors) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the ENVIRONMENT-MIB::nnenvTempSensorValue OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any Nortel/Bay Networks-derived networking chassis (environmental sensors) from a single console.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Nortel/Bay Networks-derived networking chassis (environmental sensors) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type nnenvTempSensorValue into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The Average value of the temperature sensors. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Gauge32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the reported value exceeds the level expected for healthy operation, since sustained high temperature often precedes thermal shutdown or hardware degradation. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
