etsysDot1xRekeyPairwise

Module: ENTERASYS-8021X-REKEYING-MIB

OID (symbolic): ENTERASYS-8021X-REKEYING-MIB::etsysDot1xRekeyPairwise

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.5624.1.2.17.1.1.1.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: TruthValue

Access: read-write

Description: Determines whether Rapid Rekeying tumbles Pairwise keys (when it is enabled, and the radio card supports them).

If true(1), it indicates that the access point should tumble both Pairwise and Group keys.

If false(2), it indicates that the access point should tumble only Group keys.

What is etsysDot1xRekeyPairwise?

This setting decides whether the periodic key-rotation process refreshes only the shared 'Group' key used for broadcast traffic, or also rotates the unique 'Pairwise' keys used for each individual client's traffic, assuming the wireless radio hardware supports pairwise keys. Administrators enable pairwise tumbling for stronger per-client security, ensuring that even an attacker who somehow obtains one client's key can't use it to decrypt another client's traffic. For example, setting this to true(1) means each laptop's individual encryption key gets refreshed on the same schedule as the shared broadcast key, rather than leaving per-client keys static.
