etsysDot1xRekeyAsymmetric

Module: ENTERASYS-8021X-REKEYING-MIB

OID (symbolic): ENTERASYS-8021X-REKEYING-MIB::etsysDot1xRekeyAsymmetric

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.5624.1.2.17.1.1.1.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: TruthValue

Access: read-write

Description: Determines the association between the supplicant and authenticator transmit keys.

If true(1), the authenticator and supplicant will use different encryption keys in order to transmit data.

If false(2), the authenticator and supplicant will use a single key pattern to encrypt the transmitted data.

What is etsysDot1xRekeyAsymmetric?

This setting controls whether the access point (authenticator) and the connecting client (supplicant) each use a distinct key to encrypt the data they transmit, versus sharing one single key pattern for both directions. Administrators would typically leave this at its default of true, using asymmetric keys, for stronger security since a compromised key on one side doesn't automatically expose the other direction's traffic. For example, with this set to true(1), traffic from the access point to a laptop is encrypted with a different key than traffic from that laptop back to the access point.
