Category: Domain: Security, Standard: IEEE 802
Description: Provides management objects for IEEE 802.1X port-based network access control configuration and session monitoring.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Dot1xMGMT-MIB?
Dot1xMGMT-MIB is a proprietary enterprise extension to standard IEEE 802.1X port-based network access control, adding guest VLAN management configuration for switches that support 802.1X authentication. It exposes configuration objects defining the guest VLAN name and its assigned port(s), along with an entry-deletion state indicator. It supports monitoring authentication/access-control configuration status, specifically which VLAN unauthenticated or guest devices are placed into and on which ports, a software/policy-status concern useful for verifying that fallback network access policy is correctly applied. It explicitly depends on and extends the IEEE 802.1X standard (and the standard dot1x PAE MIB), layering vendor-specific guest VLAN semantics on top. It is typically deployed on enterprise access switches implementing 802.1X NAC with a guest VLAN fallback for unauthenticated clients, and this Dot1xMGMT-MIB reference is what confirms that fallback policy is applied consistently.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dot1xMGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- D-Link switch (802.1X guest VLAN management) — Identified as D-Link via its DLINK-ID-REC-MIB import (D-Link's product-identification OID branch), not a generic vendor-proprietary extension as previously described.
Monitoring Examples
dot1xGuestVlan and dot1xGuestVlanName let an admin confirm which VLAN is designated for unauthenticated 802.1X clients, while dot1xGuestVlanPort shows which ports have guest VLAN fallback enabled. dot1xGuestVlanDelState indicates whether a guest VLAN assignment entry is pending deletion, useful when auditing configuration changes. An operator would poll these objects to verify NAC guest-access policy is consistently applied across access ports before troubleshooting a client that unexpectedly lands in, or is denied, the guest VLAN.
What Can Be Monitored
- guest VLAN name
- guest VLAN assigned ports
- guest VLAN entry deletion state
