This counter records the number of unicast packets received on the interface, one of three traffic-category counters (unicast, multicast, broadcast) tracked per port. It gives an admin a baseline of normal point-to-point traffic volume on a port, useful for spotting anomalies when compared against the multicast and broadcast counters. For example, a healthy access port typically shows unicast counts far outweighing multicast and broadcast, so a sudden shift would warrant investigation.
