Category: Vendor: D-Link

Description: Monitors TCP/UDP socket connections and network socket statistics on D-Link 3100 series switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DLINK-3100-SOCKET-MIB?

DLINK-3100-SOCKET-MIB is a proprietary D-Link MIB for the 3100 series switches that exposes the internal TCP/UDP socket table of the switch's management-CPU software stack. It provides a socket table with per-socket identifiers, transport type, connection state, blocking mode, and uptime, giving visibility into which network services and connections the switch's embedded software currently has open. This is squarely a software-health MIB: it lets an administrator confirm management services (SSH, Telnet, web, SNMP) are listening as expected, or catch unexpected/leaked sockets, using rlSocketState and rlSocketUpTime as indicators of a hung or long-lived connection. As a private MIB it stands alone, providing its own vendor-specific socket abstraction rather than depending on the standard IETF TCP-MIB/UDP-MIB. It is used on D-Link DES-3100 series switches when diagnosing management-plane connectivity issues or resource consumption from stuck sockets. Engineers can download the DLINK-3100-SOCKET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DLINK-3100-SOCKET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link DES-3100 series switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would walk rlSocketTable/rlSocketEntry and check rlSocketType and rlSocketState for each rlSocketId to see whether the SSH or web-management socket is established versus stuck in a wait state. A very large rlSocketUpTime on a socket that should be short-lived, combined with a non-blocking rlSocketBlockMode, would flag a leaked connection consuming CPU resources. This helps diagnose why the switch's management interface has become slow or unresponsive.

What Can Be Monitored

  • open socket count and IDs
  • socket type (TCP/UDP)
  • socket connection state
  • socket blocking mode
  • socket uptime/age
