lookupCtlTargetAddress

Module: DISMAN-NSLOOKUP-MIB

OID (symbolic): DISMAN-NSLOOKUP-MIB::lookupCtlTargetAddress

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.82.1.3.1.4

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: InetAddress

Access: read-create

Description: Specifies the address used for a resolver lookup at a remote host. The corresponding lookupCtlTargetAddressType objects determines its type, as well as the function that can be requested.

A value for this object MUST be set prior to transitioning its corresponding lookupCtlEntry to active(1) via lookupCtlRowStatus.

What is lookupCtlTargetAddress?

This holds the actual hostname or IP address string that the remote lookup operation will resolve, interpreted according to the type set in the corresponding lookupCtlTargetAddressType. It must be populated before the row is activated via lookupCtlRowStatus, since the agent needs a concrete target before it can start the query. An admin troubleshooting name resolution might set this to a hostname like "mail.example.com" with the type set to dns, then activate the row to trigger the lookup.
