Description:
The number of octets that have been dropped by this drop process. This object should be used on high speed interfaces.
Discontinuities in the value of this counter can occur at re- initialization of the management system and at other times as indicated by the value of ifCounterDiscontinuityTime appropriate to this interface.
What is diffServAlgDropHCOctets?
This OID counts the total bytes dropped by a quality-of-service algorithm on high-speed network links. Unlike a simple counter that resets, this counter is designed for extremely fast interfaces where overflow can occur. Traffic engineers examine this metric to identify whether traffic shaping rules are discarding packets and whether to adjust bandwidth limits to reduce losses.
