What Is DES3828-SWL3MGMT-MIB?

DES3828-SWL3MGMT-MIB is a D-Link Corp. proprietary enterprise MIB (registered under des3828, imported from SW3800PRIMGMT-MIB) that models Layer 3 routing and software IP-forwarding management for the D-Link DES-3828 switch. It provides global protocol enable/disable switches for RIP, OSPF (including OSPF ECMP), DVMRP, PIM, and VRRP (swL3DevCtrlRIPState, swL3DevCtrlOSPFState, swL3DevCtrlOSPFECMPState, etc.), an IP interface control table (swL3IpCtrlTable) covering address/mask, VLAN binding, addressing mode (manual/BOOTP/DHCP), secondary-address and proxy-ARP flags, and operational state, plus a companion virtual IP interface table for VRRP-style virtual addressing. It also exposes a static route table (swL3IpStaticRouteTable) with primary/backup route state, an IP forwarding-database info table, BOOTP and DNS relay configuration tables (including DHCP Option 82 handling), an MD5 authentication key table used by OSPF/RIP, a route-redistribution table between RIP/OSPF/static/local sources, and OSPF-MIB extension tables for host routes and virtual interfaces reusing standard OSPF-MIB textual conventions. Together these objects let an operator both configure and audit the switch's L3 routing behavior from a single proprietary tree layered on top of the standard OSPF-MIB. It is deployed on D-Link DES-3828 Layer 3 switches, and administrators can download the DES3828-SWL3MGMT-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DES3828-SWL3MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link DES-3828 Layer 3 switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls swL3DevCtrlOSPFState and swL3IpCtrlTable's swL3IpCtrlOperState for a routed VLAN interface to confirm OSPF is enabled and the interface is operationally up, then checks swL3RouteRedistriTable to verify static routes are being redistributed into OSPF as expected; an interface reporting down(3) in swL3IpCtrlOperState while swL3DevCtrlOSPFState shows enabled would point to a physical or VLAN-binding problem preventing OSPF from forming adjacencies on that interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RIP/OSPF/DVMRP/PIM/VRRP global enable state
  • IP interface configuration and operational state
  • static route table entries and primary/backup state
  • route redistribution table entries
  • OSPF/RIP MD5 authentication key table

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using swL3ospfVirtIfEvents OID:

Select a D-Link DES-3828 switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type swL3ospfVirtIfEvents into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of state changes or error events on this virtual link. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
