swL2DevCtrlSnmpEnableAuthenTraps

Module: DES3016-L2MGMT-MIB

OID (symbolic): DES3016-L2MGMT-MIB::swL2DevCtrlSnmpEnableAuthenTraps

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.171.11.63.10.2.1.2.13

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Indicates whether the SNMP entity is permitted to generate authenticationFailure traps. The value of this object overrides any configuration information; as such, it provides a means whereby all authenticationFailure traps may be disabled.

Note that it is strongly recommended that this object be stored in non-volatile memory so that it remains constant across re-initializations of the network management system.

What is swL2DevCtrlSnmpEnableAuthenTraps?

Standard SNMP control (mirroring RFC1213's snmpEnableAuthenTraps) that permits or blocks the device from sending authenticationFailure traps when an SNMP request uses a bad community string. Sites that don't want their NMS flooded by brute-force scan noise typically set this to disabled(2), while security-conscious sites leave it enabled(1) to catch unauthorized access attempts.
