mlpppIpNcComp
Module: CXMLPPP-IP-NCP-MIB
OID (symbolic): CXMLPPP-IP-NCP-MIB::mlpppIpNcComp
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.495.2.1.6.49.53.1.10
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: INTEGER
Access: read-write
Description: Determines whether the local end of PPP link wants to use TCP/IP header compression (vj-tcp) to send packets over the link. If header compression is desired, the local will negotiate for its implementation with the remote end of the link. The result of the negotiation is displayed in mlpppIpNsLocalToRemoteComp (the local) and mlpppIpNsRemoteToLocalComp (remote). If compression is not desired, there will be no attempt to negotiate with the other end of the link.
Options: none (1)
vj-tcp (2): header compression
Default Value: none
Configuration Changed: administrative
What is mlpppIpNcComp?
This read-write object determines whether the local end of the PPP link wants to use Van Jacobson TCP/IP header compression (vj-tcp); if enabled, the local end negotiates for it with the remote, with the negotiated result shown in mlpppIpNsLocalToRemoteComp and mlpppIpNsRemoteToLocalComp. An admin sets this administratively to request header compression on a PPP link to reduce overhead on slow serial links, though whether it actually takes effect depends on the remote peer agreeing during negotiation. Setting it to vj-tcp(2) causes the local end to attempt to negotiate TCP/IP header compression with the remote peer on that PPP link.
