backplaneHeartbeat

Module: CTRON-IMIM-ADDRESS-MIB

OID (symbolic): CTRON-IMIM-ADDRESS-MIB::backplaneHeartbeat

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.1.6.5.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: This object reports on the status of the backplane protocol heartbeat. This object is applicable only to intelligent MIMs residing in an MMAC chassis.

If the heartbeat is detected from the management module (i.e. the intelligent MIM is in communication with the management module) then the value returned by this object is heartBeatPresent(1).

If the heartbeat is not present, then the returned value is heartBeatAbsent(2).

On intelligent MIMs that do not support the backplane protocol and management modules the value notSupported(3) is returned.

What is backplaneHeartbeat?

This object reports whether this intelligent MIM is currently detecting a backplane heartbeat signal from the chassis's management module, confirming it is in active communication over the backplane, with a separate value indicating the feature is not supported on MIMs or chassis lacking a management module. An admin checks this to distinguish a MIM that has lost backplane communication from one that is healthy or simply does not support the feature at all. For example, a MIM reporting heartBeatAbsent(2) would indicate it has lost contact with the chassis's management module, even if the MIM itself still appears otherwise reachable over the network.
