Description: The administrative status requested by management for the speed of this port. The value of tenmegabit(2) indicates that if Auto-Negotiation is disabled for this port, that the port will operate at a speed of 10 megabits per second, provided that the port supports that speed, as specified by ctEtherSupportedSpeed.

The value of hundredmegabit(3) indicates that if Auto-Negotiation is disabled for this port, that the port will operate at a speed of 100 megabits per second, provided that the port supports that speed, as specified by ctEtherSupportedSpeed.

The value of gigabit(4) indicates that if Auto-Negotiation is disabled for this port, that the port will operate at a speed of 1000 megabits per second, provided that the port supports that speed, as specified by ctEtherSupportedSpeed.

In all cases, if the value specified does not indicate a speed that the port supports the set will fail.

What is ctEtherSpeedAdminStatus?

This is the manually configured speed setting that takes effect on this port only when Auto-Negotiation is disabled. It lets an admin force a specific fixed speed for links where negotiation has been turned off. For example, setting hundredmegabit(3) on a port connected to an older device that only supports 100Mb ensures the link runs at that speed once auto-negotiation is disabled.
