ctBridgeTransTrEnetAutoMode

Module: CTRON-BRIDGE-MIB

OID (symbolic): CTRON-BRIDGE-MIB::ctBridgeTransTrEnetAutoMode

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.52.4.1.2.3.7.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This object selects whether the auto translation mode is enabled. Auto translation means a bridge learns, from the CSMA/CD ports, which frame format (ie Ethernet or IEEE 802.3 w/snap) a source address is using. Subsequently, the bridge will translate a Token Ring packet, destined to the learned address, with the learned format.

What is ctBridgeTransTrEnetAutoMode?

This read-write enumerated integer enables or disables automatic frame-format translation learning, whereby the bridge observes incoming CSMA/CD frames to learn whether a source address uses Ethernet or IEEE 802.3 SNAP framing, then applies that learned format when translating Token Ring packets destined to that address. An administrator enables this to let the bridge adapt automatically to a mixed-format Ethernet segment rather than manually configuring a single fixed translation format for every protocol. For example, on a segment with both legacy Ethernet-framed and newer SNAP-framed hosts, the admin enables this object so the bridge correctly translates Token Ring traffic to each host's native frame format.
