An admin lowers this value on a high-bandwidth link to make the spanning tree algorithm prefer routing traffic through that faster path toward the root over a slower alternate link. For example, setting bdgPortPathCost lower on a port connected via a fast uplink than on a port connected via a slower backup link would bias the spanning tree to favor the fast uplink as the path to the root.
