This read-only integer identifies the designated port on the network segment attached to this port, as determined by the spanning tree algorithm. An admin uses this to determine which specific port -- on this bridge or a neighboring one -- is responsible for forwarding traffic onto that shared LAN segment. For example, if bdgPortDesigPort doesn't match this port's own identifier, the admin knows a different bridge's port is currently the designated port for that segment, and this port itself may be in a blocking or backup role.
