This read-write INTEGER (true(1)/false(2)) controls whether the PPE accumulates extended statistics such as byte counts, which the MIB notes can have a slightly detrimental effect on performance. An administrator disables it to trade away detailed per-address statistics for reduced PPE overhead on a heavily loaded system. For example, the admin sets ppeExtendStats to false(2) on a busy router to shave processing overhead, accepting that per-address byte counters like addrRxChars will no longer be collected.
