Description: Zero-based offset of an arbitrary field within the packet. Depending upon the value of filterFlags, the offset is relative to the start of the translated packet, beginning with the big endian MAC addresses; or, the offset is relative to the start of the data past the IP header (and, the packet must be an IP packet with a valid IP header); or, the offset is relative to the start of the data past the Source Routing information (presence of Source Routing information is optional).
What is filterOffset?
This read-write INTEGER specifies a zero-based byte offset into the packet where an arbitrary field comparison should begin, with the reference point (start of MAC header, start of IP payload, or past source-routing info) depending on filterFlags. An admin uses this to build custom filters matching on payload content beyond the standard address and protocol fields, such as a specific byte pattern deep in an IP packet. Setting filterOffset to point just past the IP header lets an admin filter on a value inside the IP payload, such as a particular application-layer byte pattern.
