Description: A set of flag bits which control the operation of the filter. Filters will not prevent packets from being accepted by the ES/1 as a final destination. The following bits are used: bit 13, bit 12, bit 11, bit 10. bits 9-8 used for filterFrame. bits 7-6 used for filterSource, filterSourceEnd, and filterSourceMask. bits 5-4 used for filterDest, filterDestEnd, and filterDestMask. bits 3-2 used for filterSrcLan. bits 1-0 used for filterField, filterOffset, and filterMask.

What is filterFlags?

This read-write INTEGER is a bitfield where different bit ranges enable and control which of the other filter fields (frame type, source/dest address ranges and masks, source LAN) are active for a given filter entry, and the description notes filters never block packets destined for the ES/1 itself. An admin sets specific bits here to activate only the match criteria relevant to a particular filter, such as source address matching without destination matching. Clearing the bits governing filterDest and filterDestEnd would let an admin build a filter that only cares about source address ranges, ignoring destination entirely.
