Description: A filter identifier used for adding filters. After the NMS sets this field, the ES/1 adds the filterEntry indexed by filterAddIndex. The ES/1 then updates filterCurrentCount, filterNextID, and the entire filterTable. Note that if filterAddID does not match filterNextID, then the ES/1 will not add the entry, since the SetRequest for filterAddID must have been a duplicate packet.
What is filterAddID?
This read-write INTEGER is the filter identifier an NMS sets to add a new filter at the position given by filterAddIndex; the ES/1 only accepts the add if this value matches filterNextID, otherwise it assumes the SetRequest was a duplicate packet and ignores it. Admins use this together with filterAddIndex to safely add new traffic filters, protected against accidental double-application from retransmitted SNMP packets. If an admin's filterAddID doesn't match the device's current filterNextID, the new filter silently fails to be added, signaling the request was likely a duplicate.
